![]() depending which mindset you approach the game, lost ark will have you playing for years or stopping after a few months Or smash the ‘g’ key, ignore every side quests and cutscenes and tirelessly grind the most efficient method to “catch up” with latest available content. would you rather take your time exploring, following the story, reading every npc dialogue. MMO’s have always been an infinite chase. i’ve kept up with most content despite one having 1 character. raiding and dungeons are just on a whole other levelĪlts aren’t required but certainly make a big difference with progression. sound daunting and intimidating, but it’s a fucking great experience that no other MMO comes close too (maybe besides gw1). this is one of those games that’ll have you watching tutorials and studying mechanics while making cheat sheets. allot) of homework as content progressively expands the further you go which in my opinion is a great thing, but that’s per individual opinion. Now first time MMO friendly… that’s debatable. all store services are either for convince or cosmetic purposes the best in-game store purchase anyone can buy is the crystalline aura (think of it as a monthly membership that provides a truckload of benefits), which even than can be easily purchased for free by trading your in-game loot(gold). there’s no combat advantages that can be bought. Lost ark has done a phenomenal job balancing F2P, and case in point “pay-for-convince” aspect. ![]() A lot of people I know have quit, so don’t invest money unless you’re sure you’re going to play a long time.īut that’s the one positive of F2P games: you can try it out and see what you think. It’s a game you’re meant to research a LOT and if you don’t it can seriously impede your progress and make your character weak. I really enjoy the game and if you like MMOs and isometric games like ARPGs and MOBAs then you may love it, but every non-MMO gamer I’ve talked to has said it’s very overwhelming and even some veteran MMO players I know think the same thing. Paying only lessens the time it takes to progress, and the pacing is already fine so paying to progress faster is just throwing money away. You can definitely play F2P, in fact other than character slots and some relatively inexpensive stuff like ark pass I don’t recommend spending money on anything except cosmetics. It doesn’t strictly require you play alts, but if you intend to do end game content it’s strongly encouraged and the way the rested system works it’s very manageable to play 4-6 even without a lot of time investment. The PUG community is similar to any MMO where people’s expectations are insane, so you basically need to find a decent guild that suits your play style and time commitment or you’re going to have a bad time since most of the end game content requires a group. There any many, many different vertical and horizontal progression systems that are overwhelming and often rely on RNG, many of which take months to progress and directly affect character power such as skill points and runes.Ĭharacter power is also not obvious where it comes from, because unlike other games you gain as much damage from raising certain armor pieces as your weapon.Īdditionally, some systems like gems and tripods add more damage than item level or engravings which are the two things most people focus on when forming groups. The visual clarity in the game is pretty poor, aside from basic attack indicators the mechanics are not well communicated and even basic guardian raids and abyss dungeons require watching/reading guides to complete. This MMO is not beginner friendly, at all. ![]() As with any MMO you'll learn the systems as you go :) I recommend using maxroll.gg guides for help when you need them. Raiding is more enjoyable for me than dailies and from what I've seen eventually dailies become a lot less necessary as we hit KR levels.Īs for how easy it is to get into there are a lot of systems and currencies. ![]() All my characters can do the normal mode version of the current end game raids now. Personally I made alts as I found a class I thought looked cool and eventually I just had 6 characters I wanted to play. You can cut it down to under an hour if you do a rested rotation where you play a main + 1-2 alts a day. It takes ~2-3 hours to do every single "daily" if you do it on all 6 characters every day. If you don't want to spend all that time doing dailies you can do them with "rested bonus" on alts which gives you part of the loot for runs/days you've missed. Alts are recommended up to 6 characters as 6 can generate raid gold for you a week. You can still be overgeared for the fights as a f2p. Know that you won't ever be the best geared, but the best geared is significantly past the ilvl of the highest fights out at any time. ![]()
